Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

A: We follow a careful acclimatization schedule: starting in Shimla (2,205m), then gradual ascent to Kaza (3,800m) with overnight stops. Our vehicles carry medical oxygen, and all guides are trained in altitude sickness recognition and basic treatment. We include mandatory rest periods, provide unlimited hydration, and recommend Diamox prophylaxis (consult your doctor). The itinerary includes acclimatization days, and we monitor guests' health throughout. For serious cases, we have evacuation plans to lower altitudes. We recommend arriving well-rested and avoiding alcohol during the first few days.

A: The ideal window is May to October. May-June offers clear skies with some snow on passes. July-August has warmer weather (5-20°C) but occasional monsoon showers in lower regions. September-October provides excellent weather with autumn colors and clear mountain views. The Kunzum Pass (connecting Spiti to Manali) is generally open from June to October. Winter (November-April) is extremely cold (-20 to 5°C) with heavy snowfall, making many areas inaccessible. For photography: June for clear skies, July-August for green landscapes, September for golden hues and harvest season. Festivals: Losar (Tibetan New Year, usually February) and Ladarcha Fair (July/August in Kaza).

A: We provide a mix of comfort and authentic experiences: In Shimla: Heritage hotels with modern amenities. In Kaza: Best available hotels/guesthouses with attached bathrooms, heating (evening), hot water (solar/electric), and basic amenities. In Tabo: Simple guesthouses with clean rooms and shared facilities (most authentic experience). In Kalpa: Comfortable hotels with mountain views. All accommodations are carefully selected for cleanliness, safety, and authentic Himalayan hospitality. Note: Luxury options are limited in Spiti. Wi-Fi is limited (available in Kaza town), and electricity may have scheduled hours. Hot water is usually available mornings and evenings. We recommend bringing sleeping bags for extra warmth if traveling in shoulder seasons.

A: Essential documents include a valid Indian visa, which can be applied for online as an e-Visa before arrival, and a passport with at least six months of validity. Travelers should also have 4–6 passport-sized photographs for permits. For visiting Spiti Valley, an Inner Line Permit (ILP) is required, which we arrange in advance; passport copies and photos need to be shared beforehand. Travel insurance covering high-altitude travel up to 4,600 meters with emergency evacuation is necessary. A COVID vaccination certificate may be required depending on current regulations. Those planning to rent bikes independently should carry a valid driver’s license. Some areas near the Tibet border require additional Protected Area Permits (PAP), which we also organize. Citizens of Pakistan, China, Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan require special permissions and should contact us well in advance.
